Khichdi, a traditional Indian comfort food, gets a delightful twist with Bharat Khichdi Masala. This wholesome dish combines rice, lentils, and a variety of vegetables, infused with aromatic spices to create a satisfying meal that’s both nutritious and delicious.
Ingredients-
- Half cup Rice
- Half cup Toor dal (Split Pigeon Peas)
- 1 medium-sized Potato, diced
- 1 medium-sized Tomato, diced
- 1 medium-sized Onion, chopped
- 2 tablespoons ghee or oil
- 1 tablespoon Jeera (cumin seeds)
- Half teaspoon crushed green chillies
- Half teaspoon crushed Garlic
- Half teaspoon Turmeric powder (haldi)
- 2-3 curry leaves
- 2 tablespoons Peanuts
- 1 tablespoon Bharat Khichdi Masala
- Salt as required
Method-
- Prepare the Base: Heat ghee or oil in a pressure cooker. Add jeera, green chilies, and curry leaves. Sauté until fragrant.
- Sauté Aromatics: Add chopped onion and crushed garlic to the cooker. Sauté until the onions turn translucent and garlic is fragrant.
- Add Dal and Rice: Add washed Toor dal and rice to the cooker. Stir well to combine with the sautéed onions and garlic.
- Introduce Vegetables and Spices: Add diced potato, diced tomato, peanuts, turmeric powder, salt, and Bharat Khichdi Masala to the cooker. Mix everything together thoroughly.
- Pressure Cook: Pour water into the cooker according to your desired consistency. Close the lid and pressure cook for 4-5 whistles, or until the dal and rice are cooked thoroughly.
- Serve Hot: Once done, carefully open the pressure cooker. Give the khichdi a gentle stir. Serve hot, garnished with fresh coriander leaves if desired.
